It is a 6-digit lotto which consists of five white balls plus a bonus red ball number (The Powerball) drawn every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 pm ET. The balls are drawn through a Mechanical Lottery Ball Machine. Powerball plays cost $2.
White Balls are marked 1 to 69 and the Powerballs are marked 1 to 26.
The PowerBall includes a Power Play number option which multiplies all non-jackpot prizes by the 2,3,4, 5 or 10 times. The Power Play option costs $1.
